Learning at Gables
A strong academic foundation, grounded in faith and enriched by hands-on learning.
Core Learning
Students at Gables Heritage School receive instruction based on the Manitoba curriculum, building strong foundations in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Our classroom learning encourages students to think critically, solve problems, communicate effectively, and apply what they learn. We value strong academic foundations while providing opportunities for students to connect their learning to their faith, agriculture, practical skills, and the world around them.
Bible
Our Christian faith is at the heart of life at Gables Heritage School. Through Bible classes, Scripture memorization, prayer, and praise and worship, students are encouraged to grow in their understanding of God’s Word and how it applies to everyday life.
Students have opportunities to learn from the Bible, develop Christ-like character, and consider how their faith should shape the way they live, make choices, and interact with others.
Music
Music provides students with opportunities to develop their musical abilities, build confidence, work together, and discover their individual gifts.
Students experience singing as part of a whole-school choir and in smaller groups, while also having opportunities to stretch themselves through volunteer groups and individual solo parts. Our Christmas and Spring Programs give students meaningful opportunities to share what they have learned and use their gifts to encourage others.
Physical Education
Physical Education is part of every school day at Gables, providing students with regular opportunities to be active, develop physical skills, and learn the value of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
Our new gymnasium provides an excellent space for students to participate in a variety of sports and activities throughout the year, while our outdoor spaces provide additional opportunities for active play and learning.
Gables is also part of Zone 4 athletics, giving students the opportunity to participate in zone sports when there is sufficient interest and participation to form a team.
Farm and Agriculture
Agriculture is woven into everyday life at Gables, giving students opportunities to learn by doing. Students take part in daily animal chores and experience the responsibility that comes with caring for animals and the garden.
Our farm-to-table and garden-to-table experiences help students understand where food comes from and how it makes a way from farm to garden to the table. Whether caring for animals, growing vegetables, or turning what they have produced into a meal, students make practical connections between agriculture, food, responsibility, and everyday life.
Exploration Fridays
Friday Exploration is a unique part of our programming, providing students with opportunities for hands-on exploration beyond their regular classroom learning. Occurring twice a month, students explore areas such Culinary Arts, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Industrial Arts, and Agriculture.
Through projects and experiences, students have opportunities to try something new, discover interests, develop practical skills, work with others, and learn from staff and community members with different areas of experience and expertise.
Responsibility and Life Skills
Students are active participants in caring for their school community. Through daily farm and animal chores and end-of-day cleaning responsibilities, students learn that being part of a community also means contributing to it.
These everyday opportunities help students develop responsibility, cooperation, perseverance, and a willingness to serve others, while learning skills that extend beyond the classroom.
